NTPC Adds 100 MW Solar Power to Ramagundam Project
NTPC Ltd. has commissioned an additional 100 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity at its Ramagundam project. This expansion, effective May 2, 2026, brings the company's total installed power generation capacity to 89,805 MW.
The newly added 100 MW is part of a larger 176 MW development planned for the Ramagundam site. This move bolsters NTPC's renewable energy generation capabilities, aligning with its strategic goals to increase non-fossil fuel power output and supporting the growth of India's clean energy sector.
As a central public sector undertaking, NTPC is committed to expanding its green energy portfolio, setting an ambitious target of achieving 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032. This latest commissioning marks progress toward that objective, building on NTPC's history of developing large-scale solar projects across India.
Following this commissioning, NTPC's operational renewable energy capacity has increased, and its total installed capacity now surpasses the 89,800 MW mark, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability targets.
While the announcement did not detail specific risks associated with this operational addition, NTPC's peers, including Tata Power and JSW Energy, are also growing their renewable capacities. NTPC's scale as India's largest utility positions it uniquely in the energy transition.
NTPC's consolidated renewable energy capacity was 4,087 MW in FY24 and reached 4,130 MW by Q3 FY25. The company's consolidated total installed capacity stood at 73,919 MW in FY24.
Key developments to monitor include the further commissioning of the remaining 76 MW at the Ramagundam project, progress on NTPC's overall renewable energy capacity targets, and future announcements regarding new solar project acquisitions. NTPC's financial performance related to its growing renewable asset base will also be of interest.
