Following board approval, Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCI) announced Capt. S. Divakar as its new Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer. The appointment is effective March 23, 2026. He will initially serve as an Additional Director.

This leadership transition is seen as vital for DCI's strategic direction, especially as the company aims for aggressive growth, targeting a ₹3,000 crore topline within the next 5-6 years. This goal represents more than doubling its approximate ₹1,148 crore topline for FY24-25. Captain Divakar's extensive 34-year tenure at DCI is expected to ensure stability and continuity during this expansion phase.

Captain Divakar, a long-serving DCI veteran, joined as a cadet in 1987. His career path includes 22 years at sea, where he progressed to Master of Dredger, followed by 12 years in senior onshore management positions. This diverse experience provides him with a deep understanding of both operational and techno-commercial aspects of the dredging business. DCI, a public sector undertaking incorporated in 1976, is recognized as the country's premier dredging entity.

Despite the positive leadership development, DCI has faced recent financial challenges, reporting a net loss and revenue decline in its third quarter. These results signal operational challenges and margin pressures, representing ongoing concerns for the company's performance, though they are not directly tied to the leadership transition.

Dredging Corporation of India operates within a specialized maritime sector. Key players in broader maritime infrastructure and services that share some operational overlap include Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) and Larsen & Toubro (L&T), both involved in port development and dredging. Cochin Shipyard Limited is also indirectly related, having secured orders for building dredgers for DCI.

Shareholders will be asked to formally approve Capt. Divakar's regular appointment as a Non-Independent & Executive Director at an upcoming General Meeting, expected within three months. Investors will closely monitor DCI's progress toward its growth targets, performance metrics amid recent financial results, fleet modernization initiatives, and its capacity to navigate competitive pressures in the dredging sector.
