Balrampur Chini Mills Limited announced a leadership change at its Akbarpur Unit, appointing Pankaj Shahi as the new Senior General Manager and Unit Head. This transition is effective April 21, 2026.
Shahi steps into the role following the resignation of the previous Unit Head, Ramesh Kumar Verma, who cited personal reasons for his departure. Verma had been appointed to the Akbarpur Unit on August 28, 2024, bringing 29 years of experience, including 19 years in unit leadership.
Pankaj Shahi brings more than 27 years of experience in production and process management to lead the Akbarpur facility. His extensive background is expected to ensure continuity in the unit's operations.
The Akbarpur Unit is a key component of Balrampur Chini Mills' operations, possessing a sugarcane crushing capacity of 7500 tonnes per day. The company has maintained this capacity at the unit for the past five fiscal years.
Established in 1975, Balrampur Chini Mills is one of India's largest integrated sugar manufacturers with ten factories in Uttar Pradesh. The company also operates distillery and power cogeneration businesses.
The sugar industry, highly dependent on seasonal variations and local agriculture, requires strong unit-level leadership for efficiency in production, procurement, and stakeholder management. Balrampur Chini Mills operates in a sector with major players like E.I.D. Parry (India) Ltd., Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd., and Shree Renuka Sugars Ltd., which also focus on sugar production and diversified agri-businesses.
While this leadership transition is planned, the company will be watched to ensure ongoing operational efficiency at the Akbarpur Unit. Management transitions, even for personal reasons, can sometimes highlight underlying operational dynamics or unforeseen challenges that affect continuity. Investors may monitor future performance reports from the unit and any further senior management announcements across the company. Balrampur Chini Mills is also expanding into new materials such as Polylactic Acid (PLA).
