Atlanta Electricals Limited announced on April 1, 2026, that it has received a significant approval from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL). This clearance permits the company to manufacture 400 kV class transformers at its Vadod facility. This development validates the firm's technical capabilities and eligibility to pursue large Extra High Voltage (EHV) tenders.
The approval marks a strategic entry into the high-capacity EHV transformer segment, enabling Atlanta Electricals to bid on larger, more lucrative projects. This aligns directly with India's substantial investments in grid modernization and the expansion of infrastructure for evacuating power from renewable energy sources. The nation's transmission capex plan through 2032 is projected at INR 9.6 trillion.
PGCIL serves as India's central transmission utility, overseeing the expansion and modernization of the national power grid. The Indian government's significant investments in transmission infrastructure are aimed at meeting rising energy demands and achieving renewable energy targets, making reliable transformer manufacturing crucial for grid stability and power evacuation.
With this PGCIL approval, Atlanta Electricals is positioned to target major EHV transformer tenders. It acts as a strong endorsement of the company's manufacturing quality and technical adherence for a key buyer. This capability is expected to significantly boost the company's order book and diversify its revenue streams, enhancing its standing in the power transmission and distribution equipment sector.
However, fully capitalizing on this 400 kV transformer manufacturing capacity requires meeting specific PGCIL qualifying requirements. The successful completion of a mandatory short-circuit test is a critical next step for final validation and market entry.
Atlanta Electricals will now compete in a segment alongside established players such as ABB India, Siemens India, and KEC International, all of whom are significant contenders in the EHV transformer market. Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Ltd. (T&R) also holds a notable position. Atlanta Electricals aims to secure a greater share of PGCIL's substantial procurement needs within this segment.
As of December 31, 2025, Atlanta Electricals had a historical track record of supplying 4,710 transformers, totaling 1,07,229 MVA.
