Antony Waste and JFE Engineering Forge Waste-to-Energy Partnership

Antony Waste Handling Cell Ltd has announced a significant collaboration for its Waste-to-Energy (WtE) projects in Andhra Pradesh. The company's material subsidiary, Antony Lara Enviro Solutions Private Limited (ALESPL), has entered into agreements with Japan's JFE Engineering Corporation.

Under the deal, JFE Engineering will invest over ¥750 Million into two Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) dedicated to developing these WtE projects. Following the investment, JFE Engineering will hold a 25% stake in each SPV. This arrangement transforms them from ALESPL's wholly-owned entities into 75:25 joint ventures, with ALESPL retaining the majority ownership.

This partnership highlights Antony Waste's strategy to attract foreign investment and leverage international expertise for its expansion into the Waste-to-Energy sector. The collaboration is seen as a vote of confidence in Antony Waste's project execution capabilities and the potential of India's WtE market. JFE Engineering, a global leader in WtE technology, brings extensive experience and advanced engineering solutions.

The projects involved are part of larger Waste-to-Energy initiatives in Andhra Pradesh, valued at approximately ₹3,200 crore, which were secured in August 2025. These initiatives aim to convert municipal solid waste into renewable electricity, supporting both waste management and energy generation goals. JFE's involvement is expected to enhance the development and operational efficiency of these Andhra Pradesh facilities.

However, the deal involves a shift in exclusive control for Antony Waste over the two project entities, now joint ventures. Additionally, ALESPL operates amid ongoing regulatory and public scrutiny, with a past Bombay High Court case raising concerns over environmental issues at a dumping ground.

Antony Waste operates in a sector with competitors like VA Tech Wabag and Ramky Enviro Engineers, who focus on water/waste and comprehensive environmental services respectively, alongside specialized players like Eco Recycling Ltd.
