TruAlt Bioenergy Swings to Rs 94 Crore Profit in H1 FY27

Revenue for H1 FY27 stood at Rs 1,437.98 crore, while the company reported a net profit of Rs 94.27 crore.

Reader Takeaway: Strong revenue growth and dual-feed flexibility drive a turnaround, though feedstock price volatility remains a key risk.

What just happened

TruAlt Bioenergy has reported a significant financial improvement for the first half of FY27. Revenue from operations witnessed a massive 243% growth year-on-year to reach Rs 1,437.98 crore. The company successfully reversed its previous loss, posting a net profit of Rs 94.27 crore compared to the Rs 33.27 crore loss seen in H1 FY26. EBITDA margins have expanded by approximately 744 basis points to 16.27%.

Why this matters

The company’s strategic transition to dual-feed capability is paying off. By utilizing both sugar-based and grain-based feedstocks, TruAlt can maintain longer production cycles and optimize asset utilization. This flexibility is critical as the company navigates the volatile pricing of inputs like maize, which caused slight margin moderation during the second quarter.

Strategic Developments

TruAlt is pushing forward with several high-growth initiatives:

  • Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF): A 100 million litres per annum facility is underway in Srikakulam, supported by a Rs 150 crore grant under the PM JI-VAN Yojana.
  • Compressed Biogas (CBG): The company is building four plants with Sumitomo Corporation and six additional projects in partnership with GAIL (India) Limited.
  • Retail expansion: Seven fuel outlets are currently operational, with four more in the construction phase.

Risks to watch

Profitability remains highly sensitive to feedstock costs. Management noted that the ethanol industry operates with a thin supply cushion—projected at 1,204 crore litres against a demand of 1,200 crore litres for ESY 2026-27. Furthermore, the large-scale projects in SAF and CBG are still subject to regulatory approvals, financing, and standard execution timelines.

What to track next

Investors should look for updates on the commissioning of the Srikakulam SAF facility and the operational progress of the CBG plants. Continued access to stable feedstock, particularly FCI rice and other grains, will be the primary driver of margin sustainability in coming quarters.
