NTPC Green Energy Commissions 150 MW Solar Project in Rajasthan
NTPC Green Energy Ltd has announced the start of commercial operations for a 150 MW solar unit in Rajasthan, effective April 18, 2026. This unit is part of a larger 300 MW solar project undertaken by one of NGEL's step-down subsidiaries. The addition raises the NGEL Group's total installed capacity to 10,276.40 MW.
This development significantly enhances NGEL's renewable energy generation capacity, supporting NTPC's broader clean energy objectives. The continued expansion in solar power is a key element of the company's growth strategy, contributing to NTPC Limited's target of achieving 60 GW of renewable capacity by FY32. In the fiscal year 2024 alone, NTPC Limited added 3,924 MW, bringing its total installed capacity to approximately 76 GW.
NGEL operates in a competitive renewable energy market alongside major players such as Adani Green Energy, Tata Power, and JSW Energy. These competitors are also aggressively expanding their renewable portfolios, requiring NGEL to maintain continuous efficiency and scale.
Despite its expansion efforts, NTPC Limited has faced regulatory challenges, including penalties for non-compliance with independent director norms and tax demands. The company was also fined by the Competition Commission of India for an acquisition made without prior notification, highlighting potential compliance hurdles it must navigate.
