What just happened

Rana Sugars Ltd released its annual report for the financial year ended March 31, 2026. The company recorded a marginal revenue decline to Rs 1,743.44 crore compared to Rs 1,745.16 crore in the previous year. Net profit fell significantly to Rs 23.81 crore from Rs 34.38 crore, pressured by a sharp contraction in EBITDA from Rs 104.83 crore to Rs 71.56 crore.

Operational Performance

The core sugar business faced a challenging year, with sugarcane crushing volume dropping by 27% due to unseasonal rains and crop diseases. However, the company saw a 43.49% increase in sugar beet crushing. The distillery segment remained a bright spot, with production rising to 1,072.59 lakh Bulk Litres from 902.82 lakh Bulk Litres in the previous year.

Regulatory and Legal Update

The company is currently defending itself in two major legal matters. On April 1, 2025, the Enforcement Directorate issued an order to seize immovable property worth Rs 22.02 crore under FEMA. Additionally, SEBI imposed a Rs 7 crore penalty on August 28, 2024. Both matters are sub-judice following appeals filed by the company.

Governance Changes

Board composition underwent significant shifts during the year. Mr. Basant Kumar Bajaj and Mr. Harneet Singh Oberoi resigned from the board. Mr. Anil Singh Negi joined as a Non-Executive Independent Director, and Mr. Gaurav Garg was appointed as a Whole-time Director, continuing his role as CFO. Shareholders are also considering proposals to increase remuneration for Managing Director Mr. Rana Veer Pratap Singh and Administration Head Mrs. Kirandeep Kaur.
