Gujarat Fluorochemicals Q2 Revenue Jumps 45%, Battery Capex Plans Progress

Gujarat Fluorochemicals reported a strong Q2 FY27 with consolidated revenue rising 45% YoY to Rs 1,760 crore and profit climbing 42% to Rs 240 crore. Growth was led by fluoropolymers and fluorochemicals, offsetting slight weakness in bulk chemicals. The company is actively scaling its battery materials division, having committed Rs 6,000 crore in capex to transition into a significant player in the global EV supply chain, though it has strategically paused anode projects to prioritize electrolyte and LFP commercialization.

Gujarat Fluorochemicals Reports Strong Q2 FY27 Financials

Consolidated Revenue: Rs 1,760 crore (+45% YoY)
Consolidated PAT: Rs 240 crore (+42% YoY)

Reader Takeaway: Strong core chemical demand drives double-digit growth; focus shifts to commercializing high-potential battery material pipelines.

What just happened

Gujarat Fluorochemicals (GFL) delivered robust performance for the quarter ended Q2 FY27. Consolidated revenue surged 45% year-on-year to Rs 1,760 crore, while Profit After Tax (PAT) grew by 42% to Rs 240 crore. The chemical segment remained the primary engine of growth, contributing Rs 1,723 crore to the topline, a 42% increase compared to the same period last year.

Why this matters

The results highlight the company's ability to capitalize on high-demand sectors like semiconductors and automotive fluoropolymers. While the core chemical business maintains steady profitability, the market is closely watching GFL’s Rs 6,000 crore transition into Advanced Battery Materials. The successful shift from qualification to commercialization—including supply of LiPF6 to five global players—marks a significant milestone for its future growth trajectory.

Battery Materials Strategy

GFL is aggressively scaling its battery materials platform. The company has already deployed Rs 2,300 crore in equity and Rs 900 crore in debt toward its Rs 6,000 crore total investment plan. Management has strategically prioritized LFP and electrolyte segments, shifting the Anode project to the back burner to focus on segments with faster revenue visibility. Electrolyte revenue is now anticipated by H2 FY28.

Risks to watch

Operational risks persist, particularly regarding the timing of client-led qualifications and international project relocations. The delay in the Anode project and the lengthy gestation periods for battery material facility ramp-ups mean that large-scale returns remain a medium-to-long-term expectation rather than an immediate catalyst.

Context metrics

Fluoropolymers contributed Rs 931 crore (+22% YoY), driven by semiconductor and data center demand. Meanwhile, Fluorochemicals revenue jumped 135% YoY to Rs 607 crore, bolstered by high demand for R-32 refrigerants, which is expected to reach full capacity utilization by Q3 FY27.
